Brew Better
Brew Guide
A few reliable starting points. Every grinder and palate is different — use these ratios as a baseline and adjust to taste.
Pour-Over
- Ratio
- 1:16 (e.g. 22g coffee : 350g water)
- Grind
- Medium-fine, like table salt
- Rinse your filter with hot water and discard the rinse water.
- Add ground coffee and level the bed.
- Bloom with 2x the coffee weight in water (~44g), wait 30–45 seconds.
- Pour the remaining water in slow circles over 2:30–3:00 total brew time.
- Let it fully drain, then serve immediately.
French Press
- Ratio
- 1:15 (e.g. 30g coffee : 450g water)
- Grind
- Coarse, like breadcrumbs
- Add coarse grounds to the empty press.
- Pour all the water at once, just off the boil (200°F).
- Stir gently and place the lid on without plunging.
- Steep for 4 minutes, then plunge slowly.
- Pour immediately to stop over-extraction.
Drip Machine
- Ratio
- 1:17 (e.g. 60g coffee : 1000g water)
- Grind
- Medium
- Use filtered water for the cleanest cup.
- Add grounds to a rinsed paper or reusable filter.
- Run your machine's standard brew cycle.
- Stir the carafe once before serving to even out extraction.
Espresso
- Ratio
- 1:2 (e.g. 18g dose : 36g shot)
- Grind
- Fine, like powdered sugar
- Dose and distribute grounds evenly in the portafilter.
- Tamp level with firm, consistent pressure.
- Target a 25–30 second shot time.
- Adjust grind finer if it runs fast/sour, coarser if it runs slow/bitter.
